Does Google Think Windows 7 Beta is Malware?
Posted by Wanderlust in Humor, Images, Search Engines, Software Saturday, 31 January 2009 18:52 No Comments
I’m about to rebuild my secondary box (see previous post) and was thinking of finally using my Vista Ultimate x64 disc (that I still really am hesitant to install on my main PC) but with the Windows 7 beta available and how I use the system I thought that I’d just download the beta and install it. When the time comes, I’ll either go to Vista x64 or pick up Windows 7 x64.
Anyway, I went out to get my key today, did a quick search on Google and got the following results:

Note the interesting “This site may harm your computer.” below the Download the Windows 7 Beta header. I clicked on the link and it gave me the malware screen warning me about proceeding and I had to copy and paste the URL into the address bar. I checked before posting but it appears they’ve “fixed” it already but thought it was interesting enough to post. I didn’t take a lot of time to learn how sites get this designation but I’d assume that it’s possibly some Microsoft haters reporting the site or Google…er um… having fun?
Terrible at posting the past 2 months…

Not sure really what I’ve been up to other than not posting here!
Actually I’ve been busy with my house, the yard and real world stuff. I’ve been playing UT3 and BF2142 still off and on for my usual 10 or less hours. I picked up Battlefield Bad Company for the 360 and it’s a fun game that I wish they would have released for the PC and still not sure why they didn’t. The game has a great story line to it but I’ve really not played it much.
The other thing that I’ve been playing almost religiously is Mob Wars on Facebook. Never thought I had a need for Facebook but found this game from co-workers and I’m hooked. Also think Facebook is a great site and that’s something I never thought I’d say after my time on mySpace. It has a lot of activities if you have friends and is a great time killer to screw around on with the application interface. Who would have thought text based games would make such a resounding comeback at this point? It’s kind of funny to see how many men and women of varying ages are into Mob Wars and it’s simple interface.
Still working on the Arena Rock Radio station which I hope will be up next weekend, I’m about 75% through the songs that will be on it (about 600 total tracks). Once it’s up I’ll start working on Radio Vietnam again and try to start targeting merchandise for both sites under my Wanderlust Networks heading. myGamerZone is on hold for a bit while I finish those tasks and work on a dog rescue site, a bakery and I have to work on getting Sam the Decider going for Paul on WordPress (sorry for the delay Paul!
).
ATI released new drivers this past week as well, so we’re up to 8.7. I’m going to see if they help with instabilities I’ve had in UT3 tonight.
I’ve also been using Firefox 3.0 and wondering where my damn spell-check is half the time!
Until next time….
Firefox Colors With Catalyst Drivers 7.12+
Posted by Wanderlust in Hardware, Web Saturday, 9 February 2008 03:12 No Comments
Shortly after upgrading to the dual 3870′s I started noticing that red text was showing up as blue until something on the page refreshed. It was driving me insane trying to do development and seeing the colors show up like this. It didn’t take very long to find the solution on the Firefox site (and apparently some other apps are having the same issue). Then again my first search I didn’t see anything and being the impatient person I am, I un-installed and re-installed Firefox to no avail as well as disabling (renaming) my Application Data\Mozilla and Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla folders. I refined the search to something like red blue Firefox ATI since I was fairly certain it started with the new card.
The unfortunate thing is that it’s not listed as a current issue on the AMD/ATI driver site.
Regardless, here’s what I found…
woot-off / shirt.woot.com

I was sick through much of the current woot-off but missed little of it. I did attempt to get an RF Microsoft Mouse/Keyboard for $25 but these things sell like mad. Not sure how I got the Logitech Bluetooth MX5000 last year and would love to see another one of these offered but no such luck. I also missed the Leak frog which I seem to do every time it’s up!
http://shirt.woot.com also kicked off tonight and was at the end of the woot-off. I grabbed a few of the shirts for $10 w/no shipping, so not a bad deal… not very attractive shirts but was my one item!
I also picked up the Logitech Harmony 880 remote for todays woot for $80, which is an awesome deal even if it’s refurbished.
Until next time!
FireFox 2.0 Lock Up Issues
Posted by Wanderlust in Web Thursday, 9 November 2006 01:52 No Comments
Well I’ve read a lot about vulnerabilities and lock up issues the past several days. I rebuilt my PC and dropped 2.0 and restored my Firefox data folder to find constant lockups. I checked around and found what I expected, issues potentially with Add-ons (extensions & themes).
The first thing I did was check for updates on both items.
After updating the few extensions I use and the NOIA 2.0 (Extreme) theme, I re-attempted and had the same lock up issues. I finally disabled the 2 or 3 extensions and things were working great. I enabled Google Toolbar and the issue came back. I uninstalled the toolbar, went to Google and reinstalled it from the site and found the issue still exists.
I use to run FF 2.0 for no more than 5 minutes of heavy browsing (clicking, tabbing around, searching) and it stopped responding. Without Google Toolbar enabled I’ve been running for about 20 minutes now and hammering it on posting forms, JS pages and whatever else I can think of and I’ve been fine.
So for those of you that are continuing to have issues and running Google Toolbar, disable it and use the default search box (Google).
