A Few Things…

I’ve not posted a lot since I’ve been busy with a few other sites. One of which is myGamerZone, which I’m hoping to be up soon… just need to clean it up a bit and make it a bit more flashy. It’s not intended to be a clan like site but rather a site that combines a blog, review site and gaming. I’m hoping to get the forums and galleries up this weekend and work towards a bit more “flash”.
There’s really nothing exciting going on in the FPS world either so I’ve just been playing UT3, BF2 and BF2142. I really need to get back into the single player games that are sitting unfinished (CoD 4, Crysis and both Half-Life 2 episodes). I’ve also ventured back into UT2004 and UT99 with mixed results… I think my weapons only adventures in UT3 has improved my aim in UT2004 on IG and sniper moded servers… I’ve enjoyed a few very good nights… UT99 is another story, it’s really a shock to the system going into that after playing UT3 graphically and in terms of physics. It’s amazing to look at the 3 and how the graphics have changed over the, almost, 9 years. I’d love to see a UT99 10th Anniversary Edition released using the UT3 engine, it won’t happen but get back some of the feel with the updated graphics would be awesome! 
Site Updates

I’ve updated WordPress and Gallery2 to the latest versions. Right now I’m not so sure I’m happy with the WordPress update but it’s in and it’s set so no going back. I also changed the themes for both and did quite a bit of updating to them to try to integrate the site better. I also went with some color in this version of BREWTALITY.

I’ve been working with some new themes to replace the current on here. I’m trying to move to a Widget friendly theme and completely revamp the site. I’m doing testing with the Widgets on my personal site right now and trying to get the Christmas site up and running (probably replacing Joomla with WordPress since I really have no need for Joomla but wanted it up and running). Just need to find some contact/request features.
I’ve also not decided yet to break out the gaming piece of BREWTALITY to myGamerZone since it’s sitting idle right now…trying to come up with something for that site…maybe blog hosting for gamers. Not sure yet. I also want to get UT3online going but need someone to manage that one for me, good name but need someone with the time for that one as well. If you want to admin that site, let me know.
3 Columns/XHTML Compliant (Again!!)

Did some work on the site tonight and figured out how to get the 3rd column working. Really liking WordPress, easy to set up, configure, add plugins and most of all post quickly. I looked at Joomla at first for this site and glad I didn’t go with it. I think I’d rather be running WordPress for the front end of my Radio Vietnam too so that I could just post info quickly and in order and have post info on the front page from Simple Machines Forum like threads/polls (not sure if there’s a bridge for WP & SMF) because Joomla isn’t that hard but every time I want to change something I jump through hoops, I also hate the frontpage manager, it doesn’t matter how many times I specify something to stay put, it always gets pushed down from the top spot on the front page. I know that it’s probably me but I’ve figured out how most of the items work and the general configuration but posting quick messages are another story, maybe I’ll look for a componant to help with it. The rest of Joomla isn’t hard and work well but for posting general information/news I really dislike it.
I also got my Flash code and Yahoo code cleaned up and back to XHTML compliant. whooohooo!
My Cool WinAMP Playlist

I updated my WinAMP song playlist displayer tonight with a friend (Indigo) that converted it over to Flash. This is what I’m listening to… kind of what you see in blogs with moods, what I’m listening to, blah blah blah. I was using this before with text but it’s Flash cool now. LOL
I actually use the DoSomething plugin for WinAMP that’s over at OddSock and it’s handy, basically you configure it to create a file with what you want to display from your WinAMP playlist (song title, artist, album) from the xx number of songs and then set it to FTP the file to a location on your server. I basically made it XML compliant and his Flash display reads the XML and displays it. BTW the green icon will soon change to red or green depending on the # of minutes that the playlist was updated. I know it shows the last time it was updated but I wanted something else in there… LOL So when it’s working it will show red if I haven’t listened to a track in 15 minutes or more. For me it’s either I’ve left the PC or I’m listening to Radio Vietnam.
I created the graphics and he put it into Flash. I’m hoping to make this my first WordPress Plug-in so that you can choose colors and the red/green icon through WordPress, configure the DoSomething plug-in (through WinAMP since it is configured on your local machine) and it will do the same for you. Stay Tuned… I’m a bit slow with creating WordPress plug-ins! LOL
