So as I had said in missing Frontlines, it’s been a huge few months in the FPS gaming world and I have blown it on everything!
Never fear, here’s a list of the demos out there now from just the past month!

I’m ashamed and embarrassed that I missed the UT3 demo!!

I was just talking about this on SkunkWorks and didn’t realize the beta had hit on September 20!!! There’s been such an onslaught of game news for FPS recently that I’ve not kept up on a few of these (and last report was this was next year) but caught the ad on FilePlanet and kicked off the download!
Frontlines: Fuel of War Client download at FilePlanet – Requires a founder account.
If you’re not familiar with the game, I put a brief entry up in June here.
They don’t have the image out there yet for the PC version at Amazon but I threw up the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 links.

Tabula Rose Closed Beta

If you have a Founders account on FilePlanet, they are currently offering Tabula Rose closed beta from the Guild War developers. You can check it out here. I’m still downloading the client, started it Saturday morning and forgot about finishing it (it’s a whopping 2.77gb). They have a lot of information at the their website about the game and how it combines RPG with action shooters in an MMORPG (love acronyms). I hessitate to say FPS since it appears to be 3rd person but their site claims “First person shooter fans who crave a richer gaming experience will appreciate a massively multiplayer game that is reactive to player choices and allows for a broad range of character movement.” We’ll see once I finish the download and start playing. I’ll get some of my screenshots from the game once I’ve had the chance to play it.
The closed beta is weekends, Tuesdays and Thursday evenings so it’s a bit restrictive. I’ll probably give it a try on Tuesday.
Check out their site at http://www.playtr.com/index.html or their screenshots here.
Edit: There appears to be a patch that is downloading at about 200kbs/s that says another 50 minutes for the install to finish. So yeah, it’ll be another day for playing.

Enemy Teritory: Quake Wars Beta, Part 2

I’ve only gotten about 2 1/2 hours in Quake Wars so far but it’s fun. My KDR is horrible but I’ve never been big on that piece. I have found that engineer points are easy to come by with the handy pliers. I wish that they’d release a second map to break up the monotony since the Sewer map is getting old even with my 2 1/2 hours. It’s no Strike at Karkand (BF2) or Camp Gibraltar (BF2142) so it gets old quick, at least for me. Honestly I don’t see a lot of issues with the beta and they’ve released one update so far that fixed the game numbers listing but beyond that I’m not sure what else it fixed since I really saw few issues with it but again I’ve not played it 24×7.
I think it will be a solid game but I’m still waiting for UT3.
Enemy Teritory: Quake Wars Beta

Started playing the demo tonight and it’s fun but will take some getting use to. The action is more along the lines of Quake or UnrealTournament and less like the Battlefield series. The conquest demo map, sewer, reminds me of the way Return to Castle Wolfenstein played. There are objectives based on your class such and you chose a mission while playing such as blowing things up as an engineer or defense.
FilePlanet, as far as I know, still has keys. So if you can’t wait until August you can subscribe to them for a month, get the key and be on your way to dominating as humans or the Strogg in an epic battle through earth’s sewers!
