Battlefield 1943

I somehow missed the hype a month ago about BF1943 but then again I’ve not been as active with gaming the past month with the flu, root canal’s and other enjoyable things or maybe with a shitty past month the gods of gaming knew I couldn’t take the blow….
Regardless, I find that Battlefield 1943 is being released… complete and total excitement runs through my body! “At last, they’re bringing a new game to the series” I thought (out-loud). I then read…
The 24-player game will also grant players unlimited ammunition, as well as automatically regenerating health. While these steps are being taken to ensure that the game has wide appeal, they also remove the team-centric strategy of past titles.”
This is when my heart sinks. Great, they’re taking a game that’s not meant to go head to head with Call of Duty and are forcing it to do so. It’s the worlds finest garbage to fit the console world. Let’s dumb down one of the most unique and arguably greatest FPS game series in history and tweak it so 8 year olds don’t have any issues playing the game. Let’s remove one of the things that made the game appealing, the team play aspect, and make it so little Bobby doesn’t have problems learning the game. I suppose it can be argued that the team aspect wasn’t part of 1942 but I would also think that a lot of us true Battlefield junkies were either hoping for a sequel to BF2 or BF1942 with further advances and the Frostbite engine, not 4 steps back with nicer graphics (I’m still not sure about them either but it’s too early to judge that). Actually I would have liked to seen BFV2 but I know that probably will never happen.
They are also offering a whole 3 maps and it appears 2 of them are from 1942 (fairly sure that Wake was in there) and it will be only be available by download for $15-$20 USD.
I originally found the info at Shack News. You can also check out the Official Battlefield 1943 site.
Hopefully Bad Company 2 being released on the PC will make up for this console release. I was excited with the release of Heroes, thinking it would be fun to blow off steam and be relatively free but apparently we have 2 Battlefield arcade games coming and no substance.
