Battlefield 2142 First Night

So far so good, they did a lot of work on the demo since the beta on cleaning up visuals and the overall look of the game. Much cleaner and it no longer (as Captain Caveman said) feels like Battlefield Vietnam.
There are a few things that suck with the demo… first of all they aren’t doing any stats which would be nice to see what they’re doing with them so that also means no unlocks during the demo which I think people need the chance to get a feel for the unlocks b/c I got some shitty unlocks that had little info on them in the beta. The second item is they do a splash after so many games with why you should buy. Honestly, if you’re releasing a game with a shit load of stuff in it, by all means advertise but when it’s just game play in the demo, I’d rather not see it. I know it’s a small thing but still irritating to get, basically, a commercial.
Now that they’ve moved away from GameSpy (which I have never been a fan of but they’ve not done a bad job for BF2) for their stats I hope that they don’t experience the issues that Epic had with UT2K3/UT2k4 where they’re not ready to run a stats server. Hopefully they’ll also do full website integration so you can pull RSS feeds and create your own lists, etc. If not I guess we’ll be watching for BF2Player and BF2S to step in. I know there are others but they lead the pack in my opinion.
The Good… A very nice feature is that it seems (not holding my breath) that they got browser issues fixed over the previous 3 BF games. You get a full list of games with specifics. Secondly I had no crashes in about 5-6 games. The worst that I saw as some occasional lags but very short.
I’ll throw up some screenshots tomorrow after some more time in.
